Thursday

Many happy returns on Steve's birthday - and on his investment.

Happy birthday to me, for the 40th time. Later, I show the team how to enjoy themselves, Welsh-style. Before that, though, I call a meeting to talk about measuring and putting a value on intangible marketing investment against overall sales performance. That's always hard, I argue, but say that it's essential that we measure ROI. The team tell me that because our systems and processes are dispersed, we can't effectively gather and measure information centrally. This makes informed decision-making much harder.

That afternoon, I talk to Se7en. They explain that with all our marketing, sales and employee initiatives channelled through the centralised Performance Program, we have access to up-to-date information 24/7 on performance results linked to sales, promotions and marketing activity. Their clients report a positive discipline in the way they work and a 100% focus on driving performance. This gives me complete visibility on our ROI.

Later, down the pub, Yasmin points out Andy behaving very badly indeed.
